Abstract
This article presents the results of applying the approach of urban symbolic ecology to study the changes in
urban environment. This approach allows to identify the city symbols related to its object or monuments (material),
as well as iconic personalities associated with this city (iconic) and events that take place in the city (behavioral).
The presented analysis of the behavioral, iconic and material symbols of Krasnoyarsk that appeared and
developed from 2000 to 2019 allows us to draw conclusions about the dynamic development of urban space
in connection with existing iconic symbols and the emergence of new material and behavioral. The results of the
study indicate the appearance in the space of Krasnoyarsk an increasing number of objects and activities aimed
at developing leisure activities of residents and visitors of the city. This data can be used for further comprehensive
analysis of the urban environment in Krasnoyarsk, as well as in other cities of Russia, by using the approach
of urban symbolic ecology.
Keywords: city, urban space, Krasnoyarsk, urban symbolic ecology, material symbols, behavioral symbols,
